HydroGeologic, Inc. (HGL) for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL), Canoga Park, CA

The Santa Susanna Field Laboratory (SSFL) is an industrial facility operated by The Boeing Company. The site is located in the Simi Hills at the north end of the San Fernando Valley. HydroGeologic Inc. (HGL) contracted with JMA to provide cultural resources assessments and monitoring for the project that involved various types of sampling. The JMA cultural resource team designed, managed, and implemented a Cultural Resources Monitoring and Protection Plan for the Radiological Characterization investigation conducted by HGL for EPA and the United States Department of Energy (DOE).

JMA initiated Section 106 and Native American Stakeholder consultations, and developed protocols for the protection of cultural resources at SSFL. This project involved the identification and recordation of numerous archaeological sites and isolates, as well as the construction of GIS maps and figures.

JMA managed and coordinated a large crew of archaeological monitors, and assisted HGL with the coordination of a Native American monitoring program. Our tasks included: a cultural resources records search, archival research, identification and documentation of cultural resources within the project boundaries, and coordination with EPA, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), The Boeing Company, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
